Protections, cases, pouches and covers for HTC U Ultra

HTC launches the U Ultra to win back its fans

HTC could not resume its throne as the King of Android with HTC One. It launched in February 2017 HTC U Ultra to remediate this situation, that is to say that the Taiwanese firm has demonstrated creativity to design its new jewel. The main screen is a Super LCD5 5.7 inch panel covered with Gorilla Glass 5 or, for the 128 GB model, Sapphire Crystal and displays in QHD resolution. The additional screen activated permanently adds 2.05 inches of space for notifications and vital reminders. The operating system used is Android 7.0, supported by a quadri-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor. It has 64 GB or 128 GB of storage space, expandable via micro SD memory card, and 4 GB of RAM. Its main sensor has a 12 megapixel resolution, with an opening of f/1.8. The secondary sensor rises up to 16 megapixels and allows you to record HD videos.

A premium design, to be taken with a pinch of salt

The U Ultra is an attractive feature. Unlike the designs fully conceived in aluminum that HTC has used for its high-end phones since 2013, U Ultra has a new design in glass and metal, not too different from the recent efforts of Samsung. But there are consequences while using a glass design: it's a fingerprint magnet, it makes a device already heavy and slippery more difficult to handle, and increases the risk of damage, as the glass is more likely to scratch and break than aluminum. The U Ultra can be beautiful out of its box, but after a few weeks or a few months of use, it is likely to lose its luster. Like the iPhone 7, Moto Z and a handful of other phones, U Ultra eliminates the traditional 3.5 mm headphone jack and only depends on its USB Type-C port for audio, charge and data transfer. All the problems that you have read, imagined or experienced also apply to U Ultra. HTC explained that removing the jack makes it easier to design a curved back that will melt into the metal frame, but this logic breaks down when you notice that the USB-C port also disrupts the flow of the glass into the metal.
